You are here
First of all, thank you for putting these images together. It saves a lot of time and simplifies installations for the inexperienced.
Now the bad news. After a fresh install in a VPS.NET node, I've had some problems with your Wordpress and Drupal images.
1) You say that the default credentials for MySQL and phpMyAdmin are "username root, no password (user sets password during installation)". In my case, they are not and I can't even change anything at all.
I visit [mydomain:port] to access phpMyAdmin. Using username root and no password, as you suggest, I can't log in. Admin and no password works but when I go from Home to "Change Password", another error comes up.
#1044 - Access denied for user ''@'localhost' to database 'mysql'
Clicking "MySQL Database Server - Global Options - User Permissions" from Webmin, I get this:
DBI connect failed : Access denied for user ''@'localhost' to database 'mysql'
Next stop, "MySQL Database Server - Global Options - Change Administration Password" and I see:
Administration login admin
Current password No password!
Fine, let's put one. I enter a password and the result is:
Failed to change administration password : DBI connect failed : Access denied for user ''@'localhost' to database 'mysql'
2) I'm trying to find the option to protect web directories from Webmin's interface. There is nowhere to be found, unless if I didn't look hard enough. But I found it in the Webmin demo, in "Others - Protected Web Directories". There is no "Others" menu in your image.
3) There is always a difference between the real free memory reported in Webmin and the console. I hit refresh in Webmin's sidebar, input "free" via SSH at the same time and the results are different. Webmin always reports more free memory. The percentage of the difference varies from 15% (Wordpress image) to 70% (a fresh Drupal image I tested earlier). The node has absolutely no load at all.
Thank you in avance for any help. :)
P.S.: Maybe thematic forums (according to image) would be easier? The current format is not very handy.
Assuming that ISOs are used to install
1) The reference to "no password" doesn't mean that there is no password, it means that there is no password until it is set at install so either you set it and didn't realise or when it was installed for you (not sure how the VPS.NET thing works) someone has entered a password (and you'll need to get it from your host. (I think the VM image files do have preset default passwords so that may be a different story).
2) Not sure even quite what you mean here....
3) No idea at all here either, sorry (not all that helpful am I!?) I have also noticed discrepancies between Webmin's reporting, inside my TKL servers and external to my servers (I have my servers running inside OpenVZ containers). I have never really worried about it although I can understand why others may.
Hopefully someone else will be along shortly with some more answers for you.
Redundant
I see no option to delete.
Clarifications
1) I didn't set anything at all. I wrote "fresh install". There are no questions during the installation in VPS.NET; they just generate a root password which you can change later (I did).
The problem is that phpMyAdmin's admin password is blank and cannot be changed from Webmin or phpMyAdmin. Also user permissions for MySQL are inaccessible from Webmin.
2) Webmin has an option to protect directories. Turnkey's Webmin doesn't. The relevant option seems to be missing.
3) It's very odd, since Webmin is supposed to source its data from the same server. When Webmin says that real free memory is 80 Mb for example and the free command reports 30 Mb, something is very wrong. I don't know if this has to do with Webmin in general or the custom Webmin in Turnkey images.
Major problem renders Turnkey images unusable in VPS.NET
According to VPS.NET "the new turnkey images seem to still experience the dread 11s timeout, this is a ubuntu/debian issue on the 32 bits kernel on a virtualized environment, not caused by vps.net". Many customers have the same problems.

The install was fresh and the uptime was just a few hours.
Unfortunately, given the situation, Turnkey images are unusable in such conditions.
Trying to work with VPS.NET to resolve these issues
Unfortunately this is completely out of our control. We don't build our own kernels, it's a standard Ubuntu kernel. We also don't control or even have access to VPS.NET's Xen configuration so we can't investigate directly. We've talked to their engineering team and suggested a few ideas. We also offered them a commercial support package which would cover this sort of thing but they seem to prefer to handle this in-house.
Note, we've had some successful experiments with other providers such as GigaTux and XLS hosting which haven't reported these issues.
Never seen this before
Indeed we (GigaTux) have never seen this message before.
If it is to do with a 32-bit kernel, we have tested Turnkey Linux and it works happily with a 64-bit kernel (and the standard 32-bit userland). We've tested this against the Debian Etch and Lenny kernels, although I don't see why it wouldn't work against most others.
We use Xen 3.2 (and shortly 3.4). I'm not sure what vps.net uses.
