v18.0 Stable Release #2 - 11 Updated ISOs & Hub Builds
We have the 2nd v18.0 stable release batch ready to roll (see all v18.x related announcements here). This batch brings the total number of v18.0 stable releases so far to lucky number 13! As per usual, it's taking longer than I would like, but they are coming together.
This release consists of 11 freshly updated and tested v18.0 appliances. As per the previous announcements, this release is only ISOs and Hub builds. Once we have a few more published, I plan to circle back and build for Proxmox LXC. It's still unclear when we might have other builds available.
As per usual, these updated appliances can all be found on our mirror network, downloaded from their relevant appliance pages (links below) or they can be launched directly from the Hub (note that 17.x appliances are still the default for now - please see the previous announcement for launching v18.0 apps).
v18.0 Update batch details
Technically, Drupal 10 could "sort of" be considered a new appliance. I mean, we've never had a Drupal 10 appliance before, so in that sense, it's definitely new. Although really it's just a continuation of the Drupal 9 appliance, but with Drupal 10 installed. So in that sense, it's just an update to the Drupal 9 appliance. Speaking of Drupal 9, it's EOL (end of life) is fast approaching (Nov 1st 2023), so we decided to skip that one in v18.x. If you really need Drupal 9, please use the v17.1 release. If you are starting a new Drupal site, then 10 is definitely the version you want!
Despite not having a Drupal 9 (or Drupal 8) appliance(s) anymore, we still have a Drupal 7! Whilst it is NOT recommended to use Drupal 7 for any new projects, we continue to provide the (an updated release of) Drupal 7 appliance for existing users. D7 support has been downgraded, but will now not reach EOL until Jan 5th 2025! Despite that, we recommend where possible to migrate to a newer version of Drupal (or some other platform) ASAP.
Somewhat similar to the situation with D9/D10 (above), we won't be producing a Joomla 3 appliance for v18.x. Joomla 3 is very close to EOL so in v18.x, there will only be a Joomla 4 app. The other app worth a special mention this time around is SuiteCRM. We did not build a SuiteCRM app in v17.x because we had some concerns about the security of the product. It seems that they have addressed our concerns on the new v8.x release of SuiteCRM, so we've added it back to the library for this release.
