Hi,
I am attempting to set up a basic wordpress server in gns3 using the appliance provided by turnkey but when I attempt to SSH into the root I am asked for a password? This is my first time using a word press server so if im missing something obvious please let me know.
Thanks :)
UPDATE: I deleted the template from GNS3 and noticed it assigns a random password during the first boot, in the middle of the boot text.

You should preset root password, or on firstboot.
I'm unfamiliar with gns3 so I can't really comment much without having a better understanding of how the appliance is running (i.e. what platform it's running on).
Assuming that it's a VM build, the first time you boot, there should be interactive questions, including setting a root user password. So you'll need to do the first run via the VM "window" (rather than SSH).
It is also possible to "pre-seed" the values, please see the docs regarding that. To do that for a VM build will require you to mount the virtual disk and create the relevant file.
I hope that helps.
Hi Jeremy,
Hi Jeremy,
Thanks for the reply. unfortunately it doesnt seem to be a VM build I can only console into it, SSH and access it from the web (which comes with an error establishing a database connection). I have tried deleting the node from my network and putting it back in which didnt work. Im going to try completely deleting the template and will update this soon.
Thanks.
Is it perhaps using LXC? Or perhaps Docker?
If it's using LXC, perhaps you need to set the root password when launching it?
Our LXC builds require a password login, but the root password is set pre-launch. Once you log in, the interactive questions should be asked then.
How do other servers work in GNS3? Do they have default passwords?
Hi Jeremy,
Hi Jeremy,
I updated my post explaining where the password is, thanks for your suggestions though!
