Hi,

Chances are if you're reading this, you have applied for a TurnKey website user account.

Considering that 95% of all signups are spammers and/or seo farmers, plus the hammering the site has got from spammers earlier in the year, blocking auto signups was probably overdue. However, it can be really hard to tell the difference between a potential spammer and a legitimate user. So I'm almost certain that I delete legitimate accounts when I cleanup the obvious spammer ones.

So this thread has 2 main purposes:

  1. A place where prospective users, waiting for account approval, can introduce themselves, share a little about what they are using TurnKey for and demonstrate that they are a legitimate human; and
  2. A place where TurnKey users who are looking for support can post their question(s)/issue(s) while they are awaiting account approval.

Intro post

The first is pretty self explanatory, but I anticipate that spammers and seo farmers will want to try to game the system and will likely post friendly messages in the hope that they will convince me. So if you fit into this category, please be sure to mention specifically which appliance you are running (or plan to run) and on what platform. Also if you can give some context to your username and/or email, that might help me too. I'm not going to go into what sort of things I use to tell the difference (because spammers will adapt their behaviors) but I'm hoping that this will give some solid hints for legit users, but won't get read by too many spammers. One thing I can say is that the more detail you share, the harder it is to "fake" it, the more specific you can be, the less likely you are to be a spammer.

Guest support post

For the second category, please be sure to include lots of info. The reason for that is two-fold. Firstly, so I can tell you're not faking it to try to get your spam account enabled. Secondly, so that we can provide a useful response (rather than just asking you more questions). Definitely include the specific TurnKey appliance and version that you are using (and/or the output of 'turnkey-version'), plus details of the problem you are experiencing or thing you are trying to do but need advice on. Please provide as much info as possible.

Final words

If you're still reading, I'm almost certain that you aren't a spammer. Please post a new post below (as a guest). In the provided space for email address (which won't be publicly visible), please be sure to include the same email as you used for your account signup. Please note that your post may need to be manually reviewed before it is public visible.

Note too that support type posts will be moved. Other posts might be cleaned up from time to time too, so please don't be put off if there are no posts below.

I learned about Turnkey when I started experimenting with containers in Proxmox. I would love to try out the config syncing and see what all is possible.

If you could activate my account, that would be great.

Thanks and greetings from Switzerland

Greetings,

I'm requesting a forum account. I've tried several appliances and am having some issues with several of them I was hoping others could help me sort out. Lately, I've been playing with Bugzilla, Mantis, and Roundup, but have also used Bookstack and over the years, tried a few others.

BTW, are you aware (I tried emailing support weeks ago), that Collabtive is broken (download link doesn't work). It looks old and potentially unsupported... maybe time to remove?

Thanks!

Thanks for the heads-up on Collabtive! We’ll look into the broken link and evaluate the status of Collabtive to see if it needs updating or removal from the downloads. If you spot anything else, please feel free to let us know.

Happy exploring with Bugzilla, Mantis, Roundup, and Bookstack! Let us know if there’s anything specific we can assist with.

Jeremy Davis's picture

Thanks again for reporting the broken download links. I have now updated the Collabtive page with a note re it's status and removed the broken download links.

To save you a click, here is the context info I added:

The Collabtive software is no longer being maintained by the upstream developer and has not had a stable release for a number of years. It is not compatible with the currently supported PHP versions and likely has unpatched security issues.

As Mattie said, feel free to start a new thread in the forums if you need support and/or have specific or general feedback for us. We welcome all feedback; the good, the bad and the ugly!

FYI bug reports and feature requests can be posted straight to our issue tracker if you want (requires free GitHub account). Although posting in the forums is fine too. If you do, please include the specific appliance and version you're using and any other relevant info. Steps to reproduce bugs make resolution quicker and bonus points for sharing any fixes/workaround/implementation details if you work it out yourself! :)

PS I've been away for a few weeks - although support has been monitored in my absence. So I'm not sure why you didn't get any response there? I'll look into that.

Hey there,

I'm working as a IT system administrator at a German school and want to use some of your nicely preconfigured apps on our Proxmox nodes. I also use them in my homelab from time to time. But I just happen to have some questions about your "osCommerce" installation, since it says, that it is already registered to Gary Palmer. So I'd like to have access to the forums.

With kind regards

Looking to get my account activated, I run a scanner radio system and have multiple sites that are remote. Currently use Synology VPN but looking to expand to a better system and have more options.
I loaded the ISO on a VM to take it for a test drive and now I'm ready to put it on some bare metal. Not going to be using an official appliance, looking to install it on an older used Dell Micro machine. Version 18.0 bookworm

Hi! Hello!
I am not a robot, of course a robot would say that. However, I can attest that I am a mind, a mind that thinks - if I think, then I exist. Which is something a robut could be programmed to say, with very little effort. What robut has not read Descartes?
Something, something your username might help clear things up. My username is as old as AOL. That's right, I am THAT old. Make old fart jokes at you're leisure.
I am using Turnkey bits on Proxmox. I fell into a yack shaving hole looking at scripts on https://community-scripts.github.io - which had a turnkey script, which I installed which then invited me to create an account, during installation, which leads me to here; yackshaving,..

Thanks for entertaining my BS, I look forward to working with you - beep-beep-booop

Hi,
I am looking for the LXC template for ansible .
All I have been able to find so far are check sums and an ISO, which i can't use with proxmox
(or rather it would create a VM, not a Container, and I doubt I have the CPU or memory for that).
I am a retired software developer, setting up a home lab on a tiny Chuwi Larkbox - 4cpu, 12gb RAM and 512GB of storage.

Greetings,
I am not a spammer, but I am an avid self taught learner. I like falling down rabbit holes and finding my way out. I've recently started using Turkey images on Proxmox, the file server in particular but I plan on trying others. I'm down the hole and enjoying the journey thus far. I've applied for an account and now I'm trying to comply with the terms for account activation.
My email is from a personal domain I bought because I wanted to learn more about web development. I fell down that rabbit hole which eventually led me here.
Please let me know if there is anything else I need to do to advance this process.

Hi all!
I am currently using the TurnKey NextCloud LXC container and has done so for some time now. I have upgraded NextCloud through its webbased upgrade system, I am currently running NextCloud Hub 9/30.0.2. turnkey-version gives "turnkey-nextcloud-17.2-bullseye-amd64"

This gives me warnings that both MariaDB and PHP are now deprecated.

From time to time, I have logged into the container and also done a apt update/upgrade - this may possibly be counterproductive?

I saw somewhere that there is a turnkey 18 somewhere - how do I upgrade to that version? And will it upgrade MariaDB to 10.6<11.6? and PHP to 8.2/8.3?

Also I am wondering if it would help performance to split the install between solidstate for the OS+Appliance and spinning rust for the data files (the "dropbox" part of NC)?

Oh and then I would like to have my account verified :-)

Installed TurnKey GitLab LXC (debian-12-turnkey-gilab_18.1-1_amd64.tar.gz) on Proxmox. Initially confused between LXC and GitLab login credentials, but figured it out eventually.

I also ran into the "OpenSSL::Cipher::CipherError" that prevented the initial root login to the GitLab GUI. Creating a random user account through "Register now" appeared to fix it. After that, root login to the GitLab GUI was successful.

Thanks for trying TurnKey and signing up to our forums. It's great to have you on board.

Thanks too for sharing your GitLab appliance feedback. It's really useful (albeit a bit disappointing) to hear that initial log in is still an issue. Regardless, I'd rather know than not. Hearing how you worked around it is also really useful.

FYI initial login issues with GitLab has been an ongoing issue... We keep thinking we've fixed it but it keeps causing problems. :( FWIW we do basic smoke tests prior to public release and I can confirm that it worked ok when I tested it prior to release. But obviously it's still not working reliably. I wonder if there is some sort of race condition on firstboot that means that it works sometimes (at least in initial testing) but then fails some other times? An updated rebuild is in progress so, we'll have a closer look at this issue - again.

Hi. I'd arrived here after reading the automatically generated email when you sign up.

I want an account, sadly, to ask for some projects, specifically ActualBudget and Firefly III.
I'm running Proxmox on an old Dell Micro PC.
PS: What a nice list of projects included in Proxmox, I hope that I can use some of those.

Also, I just checked my list of things that I want to implement in a feature and realized that there are several one that don't exist, maybe I'm a little confuse about this project (turnkey).

Anyway my list it's as follow:
Pihole
Deluge (torrent box)
Portainer
Plex Media Server
Traefik Proxy
Dashy (dashboard)
Watchtower
Android?

Thanks for trying TurnKey and signing up to our forums. It's great to have you on board.

We're happy to have your appliance requests. Although TBH we're pretty short on resources and have a huge backlog. So unless you and/or another community member are able to do the lion's share of the development work, I have no idea when we might get a chance to get to them.

Re your specific requests/suggestions (I added the 2 inline too):

  • ActualBudget - never heard of it before but from a glance looks good
  • Firefly III - this one has been suggested before and we even had a guy that started work on it but he never got it finished and I haven't seen him around for a while now...
  • Pihole - this is one that's been asked for before and we'd really love to add to the library
  • Deluge (torrent box) - we already have a Torrent server although it uses Transmission instead of DelugeProxy>
  • Portainer - this another that's been asked for and we're quite keen to look at it. One of the issues we have though is that Docker doesn't run nice in LXC. It can be made to run, but many Proxmox users would just assume it was broken. Also it's not really ideal to run Docker in LXC anyway. Regardless, we are working out how we might do some more dockery stuff...
  • Plex Media Server - this has been asked for before, but unfortunately AFAIK Plex is "freeware" - but it's not open source. Unless they release an open source server version it's not going to happen... We do have a Mediaserver appliance that has Jellyfin though. Perhaps that might suit your purposes?
  • Traefik Proxy - Yeah, I reckon a Traefik Proxy appliance would be a good one! I don't know much about Traefik, but have looked at it briefly and it looks like a good thing
  • Dashy (dashboard) - never head of it, but perhaps?
  • Watchtower - looks interesting, but again docker...
  • Android? - Do you mean Android as in the smart phone OS? I don't think I really understand..?

Feel free to post on the forums if you have any more ideas or want to ahve a crack at building one of these appliances. Also obviously if you need any general TurnKey assistance and/or have more suggestions of feedback for us. We’re here to help and happy to have you as part of the TKL community! :)

I would like to use the Tunrkey Nextcloud LCX on my Webserver.
As my webserver can only serve the domains with a public IPv6 addresses (no public IPv4 addresses availabe), I use cloudflare DNS proxy, to get a valid pubic Ipv4 address for my nextcloud instance. This works great and I am able to run nextcloud, get updates and installing apps.
But I've come over one problem with renewing the certificates for my domain. For the first three month all was good, and the nextcloud was secured with a cloudflare edge-certificate, but this ran out today and I was not able to renew the certificate.
Openconfconsole shows me an error:
dehydrated-wrapper: FATAL: │ │ dehydrated exited with a non-zero exit code.
In short, I would like to get some help, to solve this issue and learn how to get valid certificates with the use of cloudflares proxy DNS function.
If this forum could help me, would be great!
Therefore I look forward to your approval so that I may seek assistance on the forums.
Thx a lot in advance!

Started using CTs under Proxmox and found most of the available images under pveam to be turnkey images so thought I'd muck about with them and see if it's a fit for how I go about things. I'm 30 years in the I.T. field but a bit ignorant to things outside of servers and networking - so I just keep trying to learn more things. Anywho... should be enough to tell I'm not spam. ;-) Maybe. Maybe not. All this A.I., one never knows. Maybe I should use more ellipse's to show I'm GenX? :-)

Hi Ericito, welcome to TurnKey :)

Glad to hear that you found our LXC builds within Proxmox. Glad to hear that they may be of some use to you going forward.

Out of interest, is your server experience with Linux, Windows, a bit of both or something else? If Linux what distro have you used most? Regardless, with your server & network experience I suspect that you may have some insights or perspective that might be useful for us.

We always welcome all contributions. Obviously helping out with technical stuff like our server appliances or our custom software is always great. But all contributions are warmly welcomed; bug/problem reports, friction points, missing features and/or any other feedback is really useful. It gives us insight into what is valuable and/or not to our users and means we can hopefully make TurnKey better for everyone in the future. So please do not hesitate to start a new thread in the forums.

PS your comment on ellipses is so funny - I'm gen x and use too many all the time... :p
